THE SOUND OF MUSIC
(1985)
Back by popular demand, “The Sound Of Music” was our choice for this year’s musical. It was impossible to predict that this popular show would create yet another furore over the local newspaper’s review that included a lot of negative remarks about the show. The review led to letters and phone calls of complaint about the review and this, in turn, led to the newspaper publishing a ‘defence’ of the review and the debate about whether school theatre productions should be subject to a review (did you follow all that?). Unfortunately, the negative comments made in the paper resulted in one of our performers vowing never to act again and be subjected to embarrassment in the local newspaper! So should we or should we not request that our performances not be reviewed in the local press? Regardless, we will go on presenting production to the best of our abilities.
Despite these problems, the cast and crew did a fine job, as usual, entertaining our audiences.
Very close to performance time, one of our cast members became ill and was unable to do the show. There was no understudy prepared....what to do?.........fortunately another of our Drama Club members, Tina Williams, was able to literally learn the lines overnight, rehearsed during the school day and was able to step in for us at the proverbial “last minute”
