SNOW WHITE & THE SEVEN DWARFS
(1984)
Although this was not the well-known Disney version of the story, the production provided an enjoyable two hours of family entertainment. As our critic wrote in attesting to the story’s popularity, “it becomes endearing for its very familiarity.”
I tried to direct this production in the style and spirit of an English pantomime so we had a truly evil witch Hex, a sweet and pristine Snow White, an energetically hateful and haughty Queen, and even break-dancing cats. The audience enjoyed the humour, special effects, the costuming, and, of course, the ingenious dwarfs.
