CATS
(2010)

“Cats” was another production that I had waited many years to do (since I saw the show in London in the early 80’s). The opportunity to do this difficult production came on YMT’s twentieth anniversary. It was the opportunity to do another totally different type of show - “Cats” has no dialogue but, instead, relies on strength of singing and choreography. Jordan Allarie was our outstanding choreographer. He was assisted by Shelby Rurak in this demanding show. Beth Anderson, our costume designer and co-ordinator, of many years, aided by her team created the 55 costumes that dazzled the audience. Please see the program section for this production to read about all of the many who were “behind the scenes”. Once again the orchestra were wonderful as they coped with the many styles of music in “Cats” - everything from rock to ballads to Latin and even jazz. The story of belonging and self-identification enthralled the audience through judgement of character while it entertained with song and dance. Its intriguing storyline and challenging performance requirements made it a great choice to celebrate our twentieth year of productions.
