ANNIE GET YOUR GUN (2007)

“Annie Get Your Gun” is an older “Broadway” musical (1946) from the so-called “golden age” that is currently undergoing a series of successful revivals. As this is one of the less often performed shows, there were a few sceptics that doubted the wisdom of attempting this production..... not to worry, however....”AGYG”, as the show became known, was a colossal success as YMT continued its string of successes. A strong cast, romantic and adventurous storyline, quirky tunes, and overall a “phenomenal quality production” put the doubts to rest. “AGYG” contains numerous well-known melodies including one of the best-known “Broadway anthems” in “There’s No Business LIke Show Business”.... a factor that helps explain that the show is far better known that what is often thought. Both sets of lead performers from our customary double-casting had great onstage chemistry that ensured the romantic storyline was well told.Indeed, both casts were dazzling! The orchestra gave yet another flawless performance that carried the tuneful score along. Yet again, we had at least one letter from the audience that rated it as the favourite show...”terrific”. Even the younger audience members in attendance at the matinees wrote letters of thanks and appreciation of the performance. Another wrote: “as usual, the sets and costumes were first class, and everything seemed to flow beautifully”.
Anecdotes: The set for AGYG was built as a circus tent and featured yards and yards of red and white vertical striped canvas. One scene required a train ... we had one complete with bunks! The guns used in the show were the required licensed stage guns as supplied by IMS (International Movie Services) - the actors were given lessons in the correct use of firearms and the guns were under supervision and maintenance throughout the production of an IMS staff member.
