DISNEY'S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (2005)
This year’s production saw us venture into slightly new territory by producing a Disney stage show with all the expectations built-in. We were the first amateur group in B.C. to acquire the performance rights to the show - another first for YMT! It was indeed a challenge to put an animated film on the stage, but we were successful thanks to the efforts of the entire production team. It was interesting to note that we had an entire cast from another upcoming production of “Beauty & The Beast” as guests....and, as their Director confessed, her students got lots of little ideas to steal (what’s that about imitation is the best form of flattery?). Once again (it seems I say the same comments for every show but why not, if the comments fit? ) the group outdid itself with another spectacular series of performances performed in front of large audiences....we had truly been on a roll for the last several productions! Our much appreciated letters of congratulations picked out numerous interesting “highlights”: “the choreography -- wow”, “the costumes were unbelievable”, it was awesome and spectacular”.”It was wonderful” wrote a first-time audience member. “the students did a masterful job”. One of our regular supporters who had seen every one of the fifteen productions, confessed to expecting us to have a production that didn’t live up to our high standards but admitted that “Beauty & The Beast” was not letting the standard down...... the sets, costumes, music, technical, acting and singing etc etc were absolutely fantastic”. “What a fabulous show - one of your best”. Another new audience member who travelled to see the show from Vancouver and who worked for Tourism British Columbia, wrote about the enthusiastic cast, the impressive sets and noted that the kids (cast) were fully committed to their parts and clearly having fun. The Principal of one of the schools attending the matinee wrote that “every age group of their children were absolutely captured by the actors, singing, music, dance, props and backdrops”.
Yes, another successful YMT production!
