OLIVER! (1993)

“Oliver!” became the production for 1992-93. Although the production followed on the heels of the successful “My Fair Lady”, the whole team rose to the occasion and provided yet another truly entertaining series of performances. Peter Jahutka played the likeable rogue Fagin with Jennifer Johncox as Oliver, Jake Brayton and Martin Happer as Dodger, and Cindy Brown and Tara Marston as Nancy. John Lansink played the hated Bill Sykes. Doug Armstrong played three roles and the general depth of our supporting cast members rounded out the strong cast. Students from our feeder Elementary schools were members of the Workhouse Children, Fagin’s gang, and townspeople chorus. Sarah Ivany made her debut with YMT in what was the first of her record holding ten productions for our group. The musicians played the difficult musical score well and the choreography designed by Yale student Rachel Winner added much to the audience’s enjoyment. The size of the support from the entire Yale community for the Musical Theatre productions was growing - students, teaching staff, administration, school support staff, parents and community volunteers - the scope of the productions had made it essential, and most welcomed. Once again, our production received many plaudits suggesting that Yale Musical Theatre had indeed made its mark.
