MUSICAL THEATRE RETREAT
(September 28 & 29, 2012)
In September, The Poppy Players held a Musical Theatre “retreat” at the school.
The Musical Theatre class was divided into a number of groups that each prepared and rehearsed a number of songs from an assortment of musicals. The activity culminated in a presentation to the parents of Musical Theatre students on Saturday afternoon.
I attended the Friday session and worked with two groups: “Hakuna Matada” and “Mamma Mia” (I was “advising” on choreography and overall presentation skills).
On Saturday, I advised the Stage Manager on the protocol in “calling a show” then observed and commented on the Technical/Dress Rehearsal, with particular reference to Stage Management and other aspects of the Technical side of productions.
